INQUA promotes international cooperation in the field of quaternary science. They conduct research into period from 2.5 milion years ago to present day (the Quarternary), which encompasses numerous ice ages. Both the visual identity and the website were severely outdated and in need of a refresh. To bring the organization into the present, we developed a new, fresh visual identity and a well-manageable website.

During the advisory phase, our designer carefully listened to the various wishes within the INQUA (International Union for Quaternary Research) team.
With a team spread across the globe, it was important during online meeting to help them collectively choose a direction for the foundation. We translated this into a new, fresh visual identity that beautifully highlights INQUA’s work.

INQUA’s new branding draws inspiration from the unique shapes of ice, referencing the ice ages they study. From this, not only were the various shades of blue derived, but the triangular shapes also evoke the sharpness of ice floes. The typography reflects these forms as well, featuring prominent triangular segments and letters that appear fractures.

When developing a new identity, we focus on clear brand guidelines, including colors, typography and imagery. We design unique logos that represent your brand. Together, this forms a complete package that can easily be translated into the design of marketing materials such as business cards, stationery and social media assets. 

At INQUA, multiple logos were in circulation, leading to inconsistency. The new logo is a wordmark of the name INQUA, providing a unified look across all different marketing materials.
Additionally, a lettermark was developed for social media channels, directly referencing the main logo.

The website offers plenty of space for visuals, allowing INQUA to provide a glimpse into their world of research as well as showcase the beauty of the planet. The website features numerous animations, making it an engaging and dynamic story te explore.

An important requirement was a user-friendly CMS to manage the website independently. Thanks to various templates, it is easy for the web editor to create different types of pages. Within these pages, all types of content (text, images, video, FAQs etc.) can be added as ‘sections’, providing great flexibility when populating the site with content.

Through a realistic timeline and clear points of contact, we developed the new website in collaboration with the global team. We also assisted with populating content to ensure all aspects of the website were used to their full potential.
In the optimization process, we always leave room for new insights. For example, a more detailed newsletter sign-up form was added and all participating countries are now displayed even more clearly.

Inn addition to the new website, INNQUA can now translate their brand identity to the cover of their. scientific journal, posters, business cards and social media. With an Online Style Guide developed by us, all brand guidelines are consolidated, ensuring consistency in the brand’s presentation.

INQUA’s Quaternary research is brought into the spotlight on the new website. The new, fresh branding provides a clear direction for the foundation’s visual identity. With this overhaul, we have transformed INQUA’s outdated image into that of an active, vibrant organization.
