Why accessibility is absolutely essential
We can talk endlessly about how your website should always take accessibility into account, but when someone who directly experiences its challenges explains it, the message truly hits home. Rik Wouters and Veron Wormeester from Accessibility.nl shared everything about the importance of accessibility during their presentation at our Meetup.

'Accessibility guidelines help us establish a foundation for accessibility, but don’t guarantee that something works pleasantly.'
Testing, testing, testing
The most important lesson we took from their presentation: simply ticking off the WCAG guidelines checklist isn’t enough for optimal accessibility. Without insight into how people use your site and thorough testing, you could easily miss the point. After all, accessibility is designed for people.

Understanding Usage
Rik Wouters, an expert by experience, guided us through the website of one of our clients. He demonstrated what it’s like to navigate a website without being able to see the screen, relying solely on a keyboard and voiceover. For instance, digital accessibility at a music venue isn’t just about buying a ticket – it’s also about preparing for your visit.
Testing is essential at every stage of building accessible websites. It starts with understanding the problem, involving your target audience in what you’re creating, testing with experts by experience, and committing to continuous learning. That’s the road to success!

We are happy to think along about optimal accessibility in design. Think about color contrasts, fonts, but also the shape of buttons.
